Abstract
810,225. Knitting-machines. CORAH (ST. MARGARET) Ltd., N., FREEMAN, E. W., and MANSFIELD, J. A. April 26, 1957 [July 5, 1956], No. 20832/56. Class 74 (2). Thermoplastic yarn knitted on a circular machine is severed by fusion by causing it to contact an electrically-heated plate 1 when the feeder 34 is withdrawn from operation. The feeder 34 supplies, for example, a splicing yarn and is controlled from a cam drum 21 and also by splicing mechanism through lever 51. Trapping mechanism 33 comprising a hooked plate 38 and a spring strip 41 is controlled from the dram 21 as also is the plate 1 which through linkages 10 ... 15 moves lever 17 carrying the plate 1 into its operative position. A spring 24 serves to return the lever 17 to its inoperative position and a switch is controlled by these movements such that the plate 1 is heated when it is moved into its operative position. When the feeder 34 is taken out of action the yarn is drawn by the needles between the plate 38 and spring 41 and also over the edge of the heater plate 1 whereupon it is severed, the tensioning imposed in the yarn by the spring 41 causing the severed end of the yarn to withdraw into the fabric An arm 29 pivoted on lever 17 serves to trip a catch 19 holding member 15 and to release it in the event of a faulty needle not being lowered before it passes the plate 1, release of the member 15 permitting lever 17 to return under the action of spring 24 to such a position as to operate a stop-motion on the machine.
