747,731. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. May 7, 1953 [May 20, 1952], No. 12764/53. Class 74 (2). A yarn severing and trapping device for a cylinder-and-dial machine comprises a pivoted arm 3 mounted in a recess 2 in the dial cap and having a blade 4 which is projected, by turning the arm 3, beyond the edge of the cap to engage a withdrawn yarn and draw it between a cutter 6 and clamping plate 7 contained in the recess so as to sever and hold the end of the yarn. The device is intended for severing and clamping a yarn used for reinforcing hosiery. The arm 3 is actuated through linkage from a cam mounted on the sinker head, an arm of the linkage being held in a position, where it engages the cam, by a pivoted plate which can be actuated from a pattern drum to release the arm to render the device inoperative.
