Abstract

848,711. Pneumatic tyres. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. April 28, 1959 [April 28, 1958], No. 13488/58. Class 144 (2). A pneumatic tyre inner tube, or as shown a tubeless tyre, has an internal circumferentially extending resilient flange 14 tuned to vibrate in a manner to oppose vibrations of the tyre and thereby damp out any undesirable vibrations set up in the tyre during use which may be transmitted to the vehicle body as noise. The flange 14 may be a single radially inwardly extending flange in the central circumferential plane of the tyre or tube either integral therewith or attached thereto, and may be of the same rubber material as that used in the tyre or tube. To avoid increasing the radial stiffness of the tyre or tube, the flange 14 may be radially slotted as at 15.
