Abstract
782,864. Wheel trims. WOOD, E. L. June 9, 1955 [Sept. 13, 1954; Nov. 1, 1954], No. 16586/55. Classes 144 (1) and 144 (2). A wheel trim 21 is retained on a wheel 22 by spring clips 23 which are carried by the wheel and have resilient blocks 20 fixed thereto to engage within an annular inboardly facing groove 60 in the wheel trim to cushion and centre the trim with respect to the wheel. As shown, a wire-spoke simulating trim as described in Specification 770,603 comprises an outer ring 42, the outer peripheral portion of which is bent to form the annular groove or channel 60 which has a radially outwardly facing coned wall 600 to engage the rubber blocks 20. The blocks have an undercut groove 58 therein to embrace slidably, for adjustment purposes, the body portions of spring steelstrip clips 23 the radially outer ends 50 of which are bent, as shown in Fig. 3, to provide a hook 501 and a return-bent edge 502 to engage respectively over and under the edge 30 of the wheel rim 24. The inner end 53 of each clip is bead-rolled to engage in the rolled inner periphery 43 of the trim ring 42 and the clips are dimensioned so that, when engaged on the rim edge 30, they provide a toggle action whereby the trim may be held operatively cushioned and centred against the blocks 20, Fig. 11, or in an axially outward position, Fig. 9 permitting access for tyre inflation.
