859,178. Divided wheel rims. HRDLICKA, J. Jan. 21, 1958 [Jan. 23, 1957], No. 2020/58. Class 144 (2). In a divided wheel rim comprising an endless detachable wedge-section tapered bead-seating ring 3 and a separate endless detachable beadretaining flange 11 both retained on a rim base 1 by a split locking-ring 6 engaged in a gutter 5 at the edge of the rim base 1, the wedge-section ring 3 has a conical radially inner surface to seat on a complementarily conical surface 2 of the rim base 1 tapering towards the gutter 5, and the locking-ring 6 abuts both the ring 3 and flange 11 and reacts against the axial and radial surfaces respectively of the axially outer radial wall of the gutter 5. As shown, the wedge ring 3 has a conical end-surface 8 on which the locking-ring bears. For use with tubeless tyres, the wedge-ring 3 may be made wholly of, or surfaced with, rubber or the like, and for use with tubed tyres the ring 3 may be split.
