Abstract
834,638. Drying apparatus. HALL & KAY Ltd. Aug. 28, 1958 [June 6, 1958], No. 18249/58. Class 34(1) Material in web form to be dried is supported on wire netting 11a, Fig. 3, over channels 6 in a cylinder 3 which rotates in bearings 4, Fig. 1a, on supports 5. Apertures 7, 8 in the channels and cylinder walls respectively coincide to allow air to be extracted by an extractor 10 and a fan 14 connected to one end of the cylinder, by the outside edges 13 of a union member 12 secured to the supports 5. A non-rotatable member 9, Fig. 1b, which closes the other end of the cylinder is secured on the supports 5 to which member an imperforate baffle 15 with seals 16 is secured, which baffle closes the apertures in the bottom semi-circle of the cylinder and extends upwardly into the top semi-circle. Circumferential members 17 and covers 18 close the ends of the channels 6 short of the full length of the cylinder and a doctor block 19 on the seal 16 detaches any fibres which may be sucked through the apertures 7, 8. The apertures 7, 8 may be graded in size, position or frequency to preserve an even flow of air and the baffle 15 may be made of a synthetic plastic material.
