Abstract
833,176. Building motion for textile ring- frames. WHITIN MACHINE WORKS. July 9, 1958 [Dec. 16, 1957], No. 22045/58. Class 120(2) A builder-motion for a ring-spinning frame comprises a rotated cam, e.g. 60, Fig. 3, engaging a lever 75 with a roller 83, together with ring-rail moving devices which include a reciprocated carriage 102 having an arm 100 having a straight surface engaging the roller, and means to shift the roller along the lever relatively to the arm. As the carriage moves up and down on guides 104 with the rotation of the cam a shaft 26 is rotated first one way and then the other through a cable 117 and a pulley 120. The rotation of the shaft is communicated to two loose pulleys 47 on a second shaft 28 by pulleys 25 and cables &c. 24, and to two fast pulleys 44 by pulleys 50, 51 secured to their respective shafts. The pulleys 47 control the ring-rails and the pulleys 44 the thread guides and balloon rings. Movement of the roller 83 is effected one way or the other along a screw 86 according to which one of a pair of reversed bevels is engaged with the screw. A sprocket 64 loose on the shaft to which the cam 60 is secured is driven intermittently from the . shaft through a pawl and ratchet drive to a greater or lesser extent determined by the setting of an indicator 67. To offset the fact that the weight of the ring rails, the guides and balloon rings, and the carriage '102 with associated parts tends to move the lever 100 out of the range of the lever 75, a counter force is applied to the shaft 26 by a cable attached to a cam on the shaft and to a bar adjustably influenced by tension springs, Fig. 1 (not shown); as the shafts 26, 28 are connected through the pulleys 50, 51, the counterforce is also applied to the shaft 28 and the pulleys mounted thereon. The cam has the effect of maintaining a uniform counterforce. To lower the ring-rail and raise the guides &c. for doffing when winding is completed, collars such as 140 are secured to the shafts 26, 28; when a hand-crank is applied to a slot in a cross-shaft such as 146, a worm thereon rotates a gear e.g. 143 loose on the shaft so that dogs 142, 141 engage to rotate the corresponding shaft in the appropriate direction. Before the ring rails are lowered, the roller 83 is returned against the stop 94 by applying a handcrank to a slot 70 in the hub of the sprocket 64. The various windings that may be produced are shown in Figs. 9...13. To produce the winding shown in Fig. 9, a cam of the shape shown in Fig. 3 is employed, the sprocket 64 is connected to a sprocket 92, connected to the drive of the screw 86, the roller 93 is moved against the stop 94 and a stop 107 is so adjusted that the surface of the arm 100 is horizontal. The arm 100 and the carriage 102 follows the movement imparted to the lever 75 and roller 83 by the cam; as the sprocket 64 is intermittently rotated the sprocket 92 is also rotated to move the roller 83 along the screw to shorten gradually the traverse. To make the tapered end-portions of different lengths the angle of the arm 100 is changed by adjusting the screw 107. To round the bottom of the winding as shown in Fig. 11, the pulley 120 is provided with an enlargement as in Fig. 8 (not shown). To produce the winding shown in Fig. 10, the screw 86 is arranged to rotate in the opposite direction by being put in mesh with the other bevel and the stop 94 is moved to the other end of the screw, so that the traverse is gradually increased. For the wind of Fig. 12, the chain is moved to the sprocket 114 from the sprocket 92, the roller 83 is locked, by engaging the screw with both bevels, in a position corresponding to the length of traverse desired, and the cam 60 is replaced by a symmetrical 4-rise cam. The intermittent rotation of the sprocket 114 from the sprocket 64 works a pulley 111 gradually to let off a cable 117 and lower the carriage. The wind shown in Fig. 13 is produced in the same way but with the use of the cam 60.
