R. w. GOSSETT TRAVERSE PROTECTOR FOR SPINNING FRAMES Filed Feb. 21, 1921- 2 sheets-sheet 2 ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 1 3, 1923.
ROBERT W. GOSSETT, 0F SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA.
TRAVERSE PROTECTOR FOR SPINNING FRAMES.
Application filed February 21, 1921. Serial No. 446,667.
T 0 all 'w/wm it may concern Be it known that 1, ROBERT W. Gossnrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spartanburg, in the county of Spartanburg and State of South Carolina, have invented. new and useful Improvements in Traverse Protectors for Spinning Frames, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my present invention is the provision of a traverse protector for spinning framesi. e., means to avert loss of production as well as waste in'the event of one of the chains for lowering the ring rail breaking.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof I v Figure 1 is a side elevation of so much of a spinning frame as is necessary to illustrate the application of my invention.
Figure 2 is a detail horizontal view of the same.
Figure 3 is an enlarged detail perspective of the rocker head. s
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the link through which the chains are connected with the builder racln Figure 5 is a face view of said link.
bigur'e 6 1s a detail view showing the duplex rollers and the bracket in which the same are mounted.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
The spinning frame 1 may be of any construction compatible with the purpose of my invention as may also the ring 2 on which is a pendent push rod 3 which bears at its lower end on one arm 4 of a vertically swinging lever, the other arm 6 of which is weighted as indicated by 7 so as to enable it to raise the ring rail in the ordinary well known manner. Fixed to the head end of the frame 1. is a bracket 8 and in said bracket are mounted. side by side duplex rollers 91 In. accordance with my invention duplex chains 10 are passed about said rollers 9 and are connected at their outer ends to safety hooks 11 on a builder rack link 12.
' Patent, is
The inner portions ofthe chains 10 are carried over the convex face 18 of a head '14, and are connected to bolts 15 which are extended through apertures 16 in the end flange 17 of said head, and are equipped with nuts 16. The head '14 is adjustably fixed at 14* to an upright portion of the lever 6. This adjustable fixing of the head la is advantageous inasmuch as it adapts my improvement for readyapplication to different frames. At 18 I show the usual rocker shaft connecting course, is not of my invention.
. It will be apparent from the foregoing that when the chains 10 are moved through the medium of the link 12 and against the gravitational action of the weight"? the ring rail 2 will be moved downwardly while when the chains 10 are permitted to move in the direction indicated by the arrow in Figure 1 the gravitation of the weight 7 will operate to move the ring rail 2 upwardly.
It will also be apparent from the foregoing that the sliding head 14, the duplex rollers 9 and the duplex safety hooks 11 on the link 12 permit of the employment of the two chains 10 illustrated inFigure 2 intermediate of the link 12 and the sliding head 14, and in the event of one of the rod which, .of'
chains or cables 10 breaking the other chain 1 or cable 10 will preclude the ring rail 2 going over the topJwith the result that the ends will be prevented from coming down, and loss of production and waste will be averted;
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters- In a spinning frame, the combination with a ring, rail, a weighted lever and a builder rack link, of a head adjustably con nected with said lever, duplex hooks car ried by the builder rack link, duplex rollers supported on the frame above said builder rack link, and cables passed about said rollers and over said adjustable head and In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
