Abstract

827,508. Building blocks; walls. ANTHONY, T. H., and ANTHONY, E. T. Nov. 11, 1957 [Jan. 3, 1957], No. 258/57. Classes 20(4) and 87(1) [Also in Group XV] In a building block formed on its upper and lower faces respectively with a longitudinal projection 10 and recess 11 of rectangular cross-section, a rounded groove 12 is provided in. both the projection and recess, and one or more vertical holes 15 emerge in the grooves 12. The grooves 12 may be continued down the end faces and additional grooves 19 may be provided; alternatively the end faces may be plain. An edge groove 14 which may have a sloped face is provided along an upper edge, and the corresponding lower edge may be bevelled at 17. In a corner block B, Fig. 1, or a header D, Fig. 3, the propection 10 is interrupted at 10a and the recess 11 breaks through to one or both side faces. In further modifications the lower face is plain to form a plinth block, or is provided with spaced recesses as in the stretchers A, Fig. 4 (not shown). A double wall may be formed of stretchers A and transversely arranged headers D, Fig. 3. To form a cavity wall, Fig. 5, a tie member 21 is fitted in grooves 20 in the upper faces of four adjacent blocks. The aligned holes 15 may receive grouting or metal rods &c.
