Abstract

541,853. Building blocks. MITCHELL, F. G. July 11, 1940, No. 11579. [Class 87 (i)] A concrete &c. building block comprises two plate-like end portions 1 spaced apart and interconnected by one or more transverse plate-like webs 2 located inwardly from the side margins of the end portions 1 and formed with slots 3 to facilitate handling. Each web is formed with a projecting rib 4 at one end and a corresponding recess 5 at the other end to interlock with other blocks. Reinforcing rods may extend through the cavities 3, and vertical reinforcing rods may extend through the cavities between the web plates. The recesses 5 may be deep enough to permit reinforcing rods to extend horizontally through them. In building, the cavities in and between the blocks may be completely filled with concrete.
