Abstract
599,520. Building-blocks; walls. WILKINSON, A. E., and COTTRELL, R. Sept. 26, 1945, No. 24941. [Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] An apertured building-block consists of four parallel layers a, b, c, d spaced apart by rectangular-sectioned portions e at the upper and, if desired, lower corners. Narrow undercut grooves i and wider plain recesses j may be provided in the end faces and recesses k, l in the upper and lower faces of the block. Two ribs of rectangular or tapered section may be provided on the lower and corresponding grooves on the upper face of the block. In the construction of a wall, the outer cavities f, h are filled with concrete while the central one g is left open. Wall corners may be formed by blocks having the four parallel layers of L-form or, Fig. 9, by cutting away the ends of the blocks to leave the outer layer a extending at a<1> beyond the other layers and filling in the space formed with concrete, plates p being provided to keep the concrete out of the cavities g.
