Abstract

231,946. Frewen, E. J. Jan. 12, 1924. Bricks, special shapes of. - A hollow or cavity brick is provided at each end with two interlocking devices, and a groove b between them, the depth of the groove being not greater than one-fifth of the length of the brick. The interlocking devices may be of the following forms : two shoulders e at each end, Fig. 3, two grout-receiving grooves at each end, two inclines at each end, and two projections c at one end and two grooves d at the other end, Fig. 1. The ends of the cavities a are shaped to conform to the shape of the central grooves b and may extend beyond the ends of such central grooves, as in Fig. 1. In a wall construction, the lower part may be built of bricks having an extension k, Fig. 7, such portion serving as a support for floor joists. Corner bricks have the ends of the cavities stopped, and the interlocking devices and central grooves do not extend the full length of the brick. The surfaces of the bricks may be roughened.
