Abstract

821,144. Vices. BAYLISS, P. W. July 29, 1957 [July 28, 1956], No. 23373/56. Class 61. In a vice having a movable jaw 5 mounted on a rod which is slidably mounted on the bed 3 of the vice and is movable by hand towards the fixed jaw 4, a collar 11 is slidably mounted on the rod 6, the collar being permitted a limited tilting movement and a rotatably mounted cam lever 16 for engagement with the collar to tilt the collar and lock it onto the slidable rod 6 and advance the jaw 5 into a clamping position. The sliding rod 6 is mounted in a hollow housing 7 in which housing the collar 11 and eccentric cam 15 are also mounted. A compression spring 13 retains the collar in engagement with the cam and urges the jaw 5 into open position, a stop 18 limiting the opening of the jaw. The collar 11 coacts with an adjustable stop 17 mounted in the housing 7 to facilitate final clamping of the jaw 5.
