Abstract

A fireproof copolymerizable unsaturated polyester resin is the reaction product of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or anhydride and alpha-epichlorhydrin. Modifiers such as saturated carboxylic acids or monohydric or polyhydric alcohols may be included in the reaction mixture. In examples, a polyester obtained by condensing tetrachlorophthalic acid, maleic anhydride and epichlorhydrin in the presence of hydraquinone is copolymerized with styrene or 2,5-dichlorostyrene.
