Abstract

An aqueous single-phase liquid detergent composition comprises (a) 10-15 per cent by weight of alkali metal alkylbenzene sulphonate in which the alkyl group has 9-15 carbon atoms and is preferably derived from propylene tetramer; (b) 12-22 per cent of alkali metal polyphosphate, preferably pyro- or tripolyphosphate or mixtures thereof; (c) 2-5 per cent of fatty acid isopropanolamide in which the fatty acid has 10-14 carbon atoms, and is preferably the fatty acid mixture derived from coconut oil; (d) 6-12.5 per cent of alkali metal toluene sulphonate; and (e) 2-5 per cent of ethanol. The alkali metal cations present are either solely potassium, in which case the concentration of cations does not exceed 15 per cent by weight, or a mixture of sodium and potassium, in which case the concentration does not exceed 12 per cent by weight of potassium ions and 2.8 per cent of sodium ions. Components (a) and (d) are preferably present in substantially equimolecular proportions. The compositions may also include sodium silicate in amounts of 2-4 per cent, sodium carboxy-methylcellulose, benztriazole, optical bleach, perfume, and colour, and miscellaneous inorganic salts.
