Abstract

Liquid or pasty soap-containing detergent compositions, having a total detergent concentration of 5-55 weight per cent, and which may contain surface-active salts of esters of a -sulpho fatty acids (called ester salts), contain as viscosity-reducing additives mono- and/or di-salts of a -sulpho-C10-12 fatty acids (called di-salts) in quantities of 4-60 weight per cent based on the total of soap, di-salts, and ester salts when present. Di-salts of a -sulpho-fatty acids containing other than 10-12 carbon atoms may also be present subject to specified conditions as regards the relative proportions of such other di-salts and said C10-12 di-salts. Details of the possible soap constituents are given, and the cations of the soaps and the ester salts and di-salts may be Na, K, triethanolamine or any mixture thereof. Other surfactants may also be present, e.g. adducts of ethylene oxide and fatty alcohols, alkyl phenols, and polypropylene glycols. The compositions may contain organic solvents, e.g. C1-5 alcohols, di-or tri-ethylene glycols, glycerol, polyglycerol, and partial ethers of polyhydric alcohols with C1-4 alcohols. Other optional additives mentioned include salts of polyacrylic and polymethacrylic acids, cellulose sulphates, ethers derived from cellulose and alkyl sulphonic acids, carboxymethyl cellulose, starch derivatives, fatty acid amides, fatty acid alkylolamides, alkali metal carbonates, ortho-, pyropoly- and polymeta-phosphates, and silicates, Na2SO4, NaCl and NaNO3.
