Abstract
805,141. Exhaust - silencers. SPANNER BOILERS, Ltd. July 11, 1957 [April 11, 1956], No. 10986/56. Class 7(2) [Also in Group XIII] I.C. engine exhaust gases may be apportioned by valves E, F between a waste heat fire tube boiler B acting as a silencer and a fire tube silencer C arranged concentrically on the boiler flue f. The fire tubes a are helically grooved with plain ends expanded into upper and lower tube plates, the upper tube plate of the silencer C having an asbestos packed sliding joint S with the flue f. A spark arresting and inspection chamber g is provided. The boiler B makes steam for heating heavy oil fuel or driving electrical generators. According to the Provisional Specification, the fire tubes a of the silencer C may be surrounded by plain tubes inside which the gases pass internally and externally of the tubes a, and a single diversion valve replaces the valves E, F.
