Abstract

821,487. Waste-gas steam boilers. VORKAUF, H. Nov. 4, 1957 [Dec. 29, 1956], No. 34351/57. Class 123(2) A steam boiler heated by I.C. engine exhaust gas comprises a substantially cylindrical casing having a gas inlet 1 and outlet 3 and containing banks 2 of tubulous heating surface. As shown in Fig. 2, one half of the casing is of doublewalled construction, the space 4 between the double walls serving as a by-pass through which gas may flow without contacting the heating surface. The gas flow is proportioned between the main pass and the by-pass to control the steam output by adjustment of dampers 5, 6. In a modification, the dampers are replaced by a single slide valve.
