[Class 123 (ii)] A composite boiler comprises an axial vertical thimble tube nest A surrounded by an annular water space and a nest of plain openended vertical watertubes D extending between parallel tube plates B, C, set across the boiler axis and forming with vertical diaphragms E a gas passage which may be divided by plates into ducts for gases from separate sources. The thimble tube nest may be fired from a burner or other heat source G, or by Diesel engine exhaust or other hot gases from an inlet H.
