Abstract

596,904. Steam and hot-water boilers. SPANNER, E. F. Aug. 4, 1945, No. 20083. [Classes 64 (i) and 123 (ii)] A vertical steam or hot-water boiler E of cylindrical shape is fired by a gas or oil burner L the flame of which is projected downwardly through an axial furnace tube A towards a bottom combustion chamber C and the gases from the latter passing to a smokebox J and flue K at the upper end of the boiler through a nest of plain or grooved tubes D, e.g., tubes as described in Specification 569,000. A further nest or nests of firetubes D1, extending between a bottom chamber C1 having an inlet M and an upper chamber J1 with an exhaust K1, may be provided for the passage of hot gases from a source other than the burner L. As shown, the combustion chamber C and upper end of the furnace tube A are preferably fitted with refractory linings G, H respectively.
