Abstract
798,493. Coke ovens. EVENCE COPPEE & CIE. June 5, 1956 [July 8, 1955], No. 17316/56. Class 51 (2). In a regenerative compound coke oven battery having regenerators 3 extending below the full length of the coking chambers, the sole flue below each regenerator is divided by a partition 20 into an upper compartment 14 connected at one side of the battery either to a pipe 22 opening to the atmosphere by a flap valve 23 or to a valve-controlled branch pipe 27 leading from a lean gas main 26, and a lower compartment 15 connected at the opposite side of the battery to a waste gas main 24 under control of a valve 25. The partition 20 is arranged obliquely so that compartment 14 widens towards the air or gas supply side of the battery, compartment 15 widening towards the opposite side and said partition is formed with apertures 21 each of such a cross-section that the static pressure in compartment 14 is the same above all the apertures when the corresponding regenerator 3 is swept by waste gases. Dampers 30 operable through apertures 31 closed by covers 33 in the basement are also provided. As shown in Fig. 5, the oblique nature of the partition 20 may be obtained by arranging the sections between the ports 21 as a series of horizontal steps. Rich gas may be supplied from a main 34 through branch pipes 35 and 36. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the regenerators are divided by a central transverse partition, and the sole flue partition 20 is horizontal. Another modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), has a similarly divided regenerator, with a single central lean gas main supplying the sole flues on both sides, the partitions 20 being disposed obliquely so that compartments 15 widen towards the sides of the battery. The above modifications have a waste gas main at each side of the battery, but a single waste gas main may be disposed centrally of the battery with a lean gas main at each side.
