Abstract
793,951. Window cleaners. EDWARDS & CO., (LONDON), Ltd., W. Feb. 29, 1956 [March 15, 1955], No. 7588/55. Class 138(1). A high vacuum plant observation window cleaning device comprises means 7, Fig. 1, operable externally of the window 2 via vacuum sealing means 10-15 and arranged to apply a coating of low vapour pressure oil or grease to the surface of the window, the means 7 or additional means 20, 21, Fig. 2, combined therewith, serving to wipe away matter deposited on the coating. As shown in Fig. 1, the circular window 2 is sealed in the wall 1 of the vacuum plant (not shown). The wiper 7 is carried by an arm 8 on a spindle 9, passing through the vacuum seal 10-15 and oscillatable by a knob 16, the wiper 7 being urged towards the window by a spring 17. The wiper comprises a felt pad 22, Fig. 2, and rubber strips 20, 21 secured by a bolt 23 to plates 18, 19 carried by the arm 8. The felt is impregnated with oil or grease, e.g., Silicone 703, to suit the particular operation to be carried out in the vacuum plant. The oil or grease is applied to the window 2 by the felt pad and thinned out by a rubber strip. Any metal or other deposits on the oil or grease are removed by the other rubber strip on the reverse movement of the wiper. In another embodiment the window is formed as a water jacket by an inner glass window and outer transparent plastic window, water being circulated through the jacket for cooling purposes. If the single window of Figs. 1 and 2 is made of transparent plastic the wiper spindle may be passed through a seal therein in lieu of the seal in the wall of the vacuum plant. Moreover the spindle may be motor driven and the wiper may extend over the full diameter of the window. Specification 699,921 is referred to.
