Abstract

692,051. Cleaning windows; scrapers. ALMLOF, J. H. Dec. 7, 1950, No. 29968/50. Classes 61 (ii) and 138 (i). A window cleaner consists of a hand plane device adapted to plane the pane and comprises a thin flexible knife blade carried by a handle and elastic means resting on the upper side of the blade for permitting the blade edge to bend and follow close to the concave shape of the pane caused by the blade pressure during cleaning. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a support plate 1 is carried by the handle, the blade 3 is mounted on the plate 1, a rubber or like elastic strip 5 is mounted on the back of the blade and a cover plate 6 is detachably secured by screw-nut devices 4 to the plate 1. In use the rubber strip 5 permits the blade to bend backwardly and so follow closely the curvature of the pane. The upper edge of the plate 6 is bent backwardly and extends beyond the blade edge and so serves as a stopper member to protect the blade edge when the device comes against the window sash. The side edges of the cover plate extend beyond the side edges of the blade and thereby serve to protect the hand of the operator. In a modification, Fig. 5, the side edges (only one, 9, shown) and bottom edge 8 of the cover plate 6 are bent down. The side edges cover the side edges of the blade. When the device is not required for use the cover plate is turned through 180 degrees so that the said bent down bottom edge 8 then covers the edge of the blade.
