782,315. Spring suspensions for motor cycles. N.S.U. WERKE AKT.-GES. July 15, 1955 [July 26, 1954], No. 20579/55. Class 136(3) In a rear wheel suspension for motor cycles comprising a swinging arm 3 suspended from a telescopic leg 6 on either side of the wheel 4, the forked swinging arm 3 is additionally subjected to the action of an adjustable supplementary spring 10. The arm 3 carries an upwardly directed lever arm 8 which co-operates with a lever 9 carrying the supplementary spring 10. A setting cam 12 is provided with lobed rests, rotatably mounted on a pin 11 and capable of being turned by the operation of a hand lever 13. The cam 12 bears on the spring 10 and thereby imposes a greater or lesser load on the lever arm 8 according to the particular setting of the hand lever 13. The spring 10 may be replaced by a rubber buffer spring. The motor cycle may have a hollow pressed frame, as shown, or it may have a tubular frame structure. When used on a motor cycle having a tubular frame the spring 10 and its pre-setting device are either openly mounted or enclosed in a suitable cowling.
