Abstract
747,351. Single wheel suspensions; preventing overturning. COLLIER, R. G. Dec. 20, 1954 [Sept. 21, 1953], No. 25930/53. Class 108 (2). [Also in Group XXXI] In a side-car chassis, the side-car wheel is connected to the chassis by a pivoted wheel mounting which is connected to a torque member arranged laterally of the chassis, the member being adapted to be coupled to the rear sprung frame of a motor cycle. As shown, a torque tube 14 is pivotally mounted about an axis 15 on a side-car frame 5 and is provided with arms 16, 17 which are pivotally connected respectively to a sprung rear frame 2 of the cycle and to a sprung wheel mounting 12 of the side-car. In another arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), the wheel mounting 12 is a pivoted arm. In a modification, the torque tube may be directly pivoted to the wheel mountings in order to pivotally tie them together.
