Abstract

709,282. Spring frames for cycles. WYMARK, A. R., and CRILLEY, C. R. June 24, 1952 [July 2, 1951], No. 15584/51. Classes 136(1) and 136(3) A shock absorbing device for attachment to an existing conventional bicycle frame comprises a sleeve 14 secured to the chain stays 12 adjacent the bottom bracket 13, a pair of side frame members 20 rigidly connected by a spindle 19 which is rotatably mounted in the sleeve 14 to allow of pivotal movement of the members 20, the rear wheel spindle 23 being mounted in the ends 22 of the members 20, and resilient cushioning units 27 being connected between the members 20 and the stays 12. The members 20 are also connected by a bridge piece 21. A bracket 30 carrying a sprocket 32 is provided in one of the members 20 to support the chain 33 above the chain stays 12. The rear mudguard 34 is hinged at its front end to a bridge piece 18 and is slidably supported on the seat pillar stays 11 by an extensible connector 36.
