Abstract

775,173. Vehicle wheels. MASSEY-HARRISFERGUSON (SALES), Ltd. Oct. 26, 1953 [Oct. 25, 1952], No. 26836/52. Class 144 (1). To facilitate the attachment of a centrally apertured tractor wheel 5 to its axle hub 2 the hub is provided with a projecting coaxial cap 7 having a spigot and socket engagement 11, 10 with the hub and secured thereto by an axial bolt 8, the cap having an axially outer tapered portion 7A to receive the wheel aperture and act to lead the wheel on to the axially inner portion 7B of the cap which closely fits the wheel aperture and supports the wheel for rotation to align its securing holes with the hub studs. As shown, the surface of the inner portion 7B of the hub cap lies flush with that of a projecting annular flange on the hub 2, within which is received a spigotlike annular projection 11 of the cap, and which assists in supporting the wheel 5.
