Abstract

773,304. Safety boots &c. MAERTENS, K., FUNCK, H., and LENNARTZ, H. Oct. 17, 1955, No. 29499/55. Class 17 (2). A protective safety boot comprises a steel toe cap 1 flanged at 4 and inserted after coating with a chemically resistant elastic varnish between an upper 2 and lining 3. The flange 4 together with inturned portions of the upper and lining and an insole 5 are sewn to a welt 6 supported and secured on a raised peripheral edge 11 of a rubber or other resilient outsole 10. The sole 10 has a recess 12 under the toe cap so that edge 11 can give resiliently if the boot toe receives a blow. The remainder of the outsole is preferably provided with recesses such as 14, 17 separated by ribs 16 to form an air-cushioned sole. A sponge rubber pad 15 may be provided in the recess 14. A sponge rubber layer 21 which may be thickened to form a pad is inserted between the upper and lining over the instep.
