Abstract
693,115. Footwear. BIRO, E. May 30, 1951 [June 30,1950], No. 16397/50. Class 17 (ii). A welt strip 2, Figs. 6, 7, is attached indirectly through a flap 12 which simulates a platform cover, to a shoe upper 1 the lower inturned margin of which is secured to a sock 7. The edges of the sock 7, upper 1, flap 12 and welt strip 2 are inturned under the sock and the strip 2 is out-turned and secured to an outer sole 3, an inner sole or filler 9 being interposed between sock 7 and outer sole 3. Such filler 9 may have an upper layer 10 of cushioning material. A strip 15 of cardboard may be placed between the upper and the downturned flap 12 which may extend around the toe portion or around the whole or major part of the shoe periphery. The upper may be force lasted or a last may not be used at all. Where the upper has a lining a stiffener may be provided. Where a wedge heel is fitted the lower edge of the wedge may be recessed to receive the inturned edges of strip 2 and flap 12.
