772,932. Induction furnaces. VOGT, A. Sept. 14, 1955 [Sept. 17, 1954], No. 26298/55. Class 39(3) A crucible is enclosed within a furnace casing in which a partial vacuum is maintained, and an induction coil surrounds and extends along the crucible, and of the two current supply conductors feeding the coil one is earthed to the furnace casing and connected to the upper end of the coil nearest the crucible mouth, and the high tensioned conductor is connected to the opposite end of the coil remote from the mouth. The formation of arcing by the influence of metal vapour from the crucible mouth is thereby prevented, and only the lower part of the coil may be insulated.
