Abstract
763,817. Combined buffer and drawgear. NATIONAL MALLEABLE & STEEL CASTINGS CO. Jan. 28, 1955 [Jan. 28,1954; Oct. 4, 1954], No. 2629/55. Class 103(5). To allow relative rotation of a coupler during car tippling the coupler shank 24 is connected by a pin 30 to a cylindrical member 29 rotatable within the forward end 26a of the yoke. Draught forces are transmitted to the yoke via bearing block 32 and flanges 26c whilst buffing forces are transmitted direct to the forward follower 38 via the spherical mating surfaces 34, 36 on the coupler shank and follower respectively. When in the vertical position the pin 30 is held in place by a support member 42 inserted and then retained in position by rotating through 90 degrees and finally secured by a bolt. An arrangement for use in a standard car underframe is also described.
