Abstract

723,064. Buffer and draw-gear. NATIONAL MALLEABLE & STEEL CASTINGS CO. Sept. 26, 1952 [Nov. 2, 1951], No. 24170/52. Class 103 (5). The forward and rearward followers 32, 34 are held against stop lugs 12, 14 by the main cushioning unit 30 and adjacent these lugs the followers are provided with inwardly directed shoulders 42, 48 to limit the outward movement of the compensating followers 52, 64 under the action of the compensating cushioning units 50, 62 in draft and buff. The compensating units are held in compression by the yoke 20 and to facilitate assembly of a cushioning unit in a draft pocket the compensating units are held compressed by metal slugs inserted between the shoulders 42, 48 and their respective compensating followers and the main unit 30 is held compressed by straps of sheet metal temporarily welded to the followers 32, 34.
