Abstract
539,764. Buffers for railway &c. vehicles. MEBOE, Ltd., SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G., COSSEY, J. C. G., and GLASCODINE, R. T. July 31, 1940, No. 12404. [Class 103 (v)] An outside buffer comprising a casing 1, fixed outside the headstock 3 and having a projecting buffer guide 4 and a spring 6, 7, a buffer rod 11 extending through the guide and headstock to operate springs behind the headstock, and a tubular plunger 15 moved rearwardly by the head 12 on the buffer rod 11 to compress the springs 6, 7 has the projecting guide 4 recessed to receive a lug 19 engaged by a cotter pin 21 secured in the guide to retain the plunger within the guide. In a modification the main springs are furnished with springs for absorbing rebound. Steel springs or " Belle-ville " washers may be used for the springs 6, 7.
