Abstract
757,609. Rotary step-by-step mechanism. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., CROFT, R M., and ROBERTS, T. Oct. 11 1954 [Oct. 28, 1953], No. 29795/53. Class 80(3) Apparatus for imparting rotary movement to a shaft 1 in either direction comprises clutch members 7, 8 fixed to the shaft 1 and co-operating clutch members 11, 12, splined to shafts 17 connected to electromagnetic driving mechanisms 18, 19. When the latter are actuated they oscillate the clutch members 11, 12 through a small angle. A stop 21 co-operating with a cam 20 on each clutch member 11, 12, normally holds the clutch teeth 9, 13 disengaged. When a mechanism 18 or 19 is actuated the clutch teeth are engaged to give a small rotary movement to the shaft 1 after which the teeth are disengaged by the cam and stop mechanism 21, 20. The shaft 1 is accurately positioned in its new position by indexing mechanism comprising a cam 5 and co-operating spring-loaded roller 4. As shown, the device is used for driving switching means 2.
