Abstract
748,290. Electromagnetic interrupters. DONAT, E. May 27, 1953, No. 14798/53. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XVIII] In an electro-magnetically maintained pendulum device the pendulum 1, Fig. 1, carries a permanent magnet'2 2 of the polarity shown, oscillating in an air gap of the yoke of an electromagnet 5. The said yoke has a second air gap 6 in which is located the south pole of a polarized armature 7 connected by a spring 9 to a permanent magnet 8 which has north pole shoes 10 which embrace the armature 7. The arrangement is such that when the .permanent magnet 2 is in the first air gap of the yoke of the electromagnet 5, which is unexcited, the said yoke is induced with the polarity shown in full lines to cause the armature 7 to assume the position shown and so close the contacts 12, 13. The electromagnet 5 is thereby excited and its yoke assumes the polarity indicated in dotted lines so that the permanent magnet 2 is impulsed and the armature 7 is moved to the other pole in the air gap 6. The armature 7 is retained in the position to which it is moved by the corresponding pole shoe 10 until the permanent magnet 2 again enters the first air gap. The device for counting the oscillators of the pendulum may be electrically operated on closing of the contacts 12, 13 or mechanically by the armature 7.
