Abstract

746,858. Automatic thread tensioning devices. BRUGGER, A. Aug. 7, 1953 [Oct. 18, 1952], No. 21896/53. Classes 120 (2) and 142 (1). A self-adjusting thread tensioning device comprises a tensioning lever engaging and tensioning the thread, a spiral spring acting upon said lever against the action of the tensioned thread, further thread engaging tensioning means arranged behind said tensioning lever in the direction of travel of the thread, a pressure spring co-operating on the one hand with said further tensioning means and on the other hand with a second arm of said tensioned lever, said pressure spring and said spiral spring tending to pivot said lever in opposite directions with respect to each other. As shown, the device is mounted on a supporting rod 6 by a two-part clamping device 2, 3, the part 2 having a plate 1 attached thereto. The plate 1 carries a supporting axle 8 on which two discs 9 and 10 forming the tensioning means proper are mounted. The disc 9 is rigid against an abutment 11 and the disc 10 is movable on the axle 8. An arm 5 extends from the plate 1 and carries an axle 18 on which is journalled a two-armed lever 13, 15. The arm 13 bears through a comparatively weak spring 12 against the movable disc 10 and the arm 15 carries at its free end a loop 15a for guiding the thread A. The axle 18 also carries the casing 19 which houses a spiral spring 20, the outer end of which is secured to the casing and the inner end engages a reduced portion of the hub 14 of the rocking lever 13, 15. Between the casing 19 and the arm 5 is a spider shaped blade-spring 32 which serves to maintain a spring 20 in an angularly adjusted position. In operation increase in tension of the thread A rotates the rocking lever 13, 15 against the action of spring 20 and so relieves the pressure of the disc 10 on the disc 9 and any decrease in tension allows the spring 20 to rotate the lever 13, 15 and thus increase the pressure between discs 9 and 10. A lower guide support 24 and an upper similar support 25 are provided for guiding the thread A through the tensioning discs 9 and 10.
