Abstract

A stop motion for a sliver coiling device including calender rolls 16, 17 is mounted on a rotatable intermediate disc gear (2) see Fig. 1 not shown, which supports an eccentric coiler gear (8) and comprises a stop motion disc 21 rotatable coaxially of the intermediate disc gear (2) and above the calender rolls, the disc being supported at two bearing points (23, 24) see Fig. 3 not shown, connected to a stationary part of the machine and separated around the circumference of the disc by an arc of less than 180 and at a third point on the opposite side of the disc, movement of the disc at which third point, in response to opening or closing of the calender rolls operates a stop motion. As shown the edge of disc 21 is provided with a circular groove in which a ball pin carried by a lever 29 engages, movement of the lever up or down operating a coiler stopping device. Calender roll 16 is mounted on a pivoted frame 27 and biassed by a spring 30 to move toward roll 17. A member 28 lies between frame 27 and disc 21 so that should there be no sliver, between the rolls, the rolls move together thus lifting disc 21, thus operating lever 29 and the stop motion. Should there be a lap on either calender roll the rolls move apart, disc 21 is lowered and lever 29 operated to actuate the stop motion.
