Abstract
897,377. Sewing machines. EXACTA OFFICINA MECCANICA SPECIALIZZATA. Aug. 16, 1960 [Aug. 28, 1959], No. 28306/60. Class 112. A thread cutter in a linking machine comprises a stationary cutting blade, a pivoted arm, and means for swinging the latter whereby the free end of the arm engages the threads and moves it into contact with the cutting blade. Operation of the arm is accompanied by simultaneous release of the thread tension. A cutting blade 1 is mounted on a fixed support 2. An arm 3 is formed at its free end with a slot 3<SP>1</SP> and is fixed to a member 4 rotatable between ball bearings 12, 13. Member 4 is in screw-threaded engagement with a spindle 5 fixed at its upper end to a tube 6 slidable in a fixed tube 8. A spring 9 biases the tubes apart, and their relative displacement is limited by a screw 10 on tube 6 disposed in a slot 11 in tube 8. Depression of tube 6 causes arm 3 to swing, and the thread 24, engaged between the needle 25 and a print 26 of the rotary dial 25, is thereby drawn through the eye of the needle and moved into contact with the blade 1, the cutting edge of which passes through the slot 3<SP>11</SP> The thread on its way to the needle passes between a pair of tensioning discs 17, 18 and also passes over a check spring 27. Discs 17, 18 are urged together by a sleeve 19 acted upon by a compression spring 20. A slidable rod 22, coaxial with discs 17, 18 and sleeve 19, carries a cross pin 23. A lever 15 has one arm engaged with the lower end 14 of spindle 5 and the other arm engaged with rod 22. When spindle 5 is depressed, rod 22 thereby rises and pin 23 separates sleeve 19 from the discs 17, 18.
