Abstract
739,440. Driving sound-reproducing machines. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 18, 1954 [Feb. 21, 1953], No. 4791/54. Class 40 (2). In a friction drive for a gramophone turntable, the driving wheel or the turntable itself has a rim of elastic material shaped such that a tangential load causes stretching and compression, while an axial or radial load causes bend, ing. The embodiments described show three different shaped rims: (a) U-shaped with a projecting edge 7 (Figs. 1 and 4); (b) torus shaped (Fig. 2); and (c) having two rings 13 and 14 (Fig. 3) jointed by a wall 15, radial deflection being permitted by a recess 11 in the wheel 9.
