Abstract

805,053. Friction drive for gramophones. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Dec. 6, 1956 [Dec. 12, 1955], No. 35628/55. Class 40 (2). A friction drive between the motor spindle and the turntable of a gramophone comprises an idler wheel with an annular rim which grips the inner portion of a resilient tyre forming the friction element. The wheel consists of two metal discs 1, 2 each having a channel-sectioned rim 3 housing the portion 5 of the tyre. The portion 5 is connected to the outer portion 6 by a flange 7 of reduced thickness, which forms a groove to receive the bent-over edges 4 of the rim 3. The tyre is of rubber or other resilient material and the two discs are clamped between washers 8 against a shoulder of the spindle 10 by riveting. The wheel is interposed between the motor spindle and the rim of the turntable.
