In a wringer having an upper roller A<SP>2</SP> supported on end caps B pivoted to spring- loaded bolts B<SP>1</SP> and carrying catches adapted to engage notches b<SP>1</SP> in the heads B<SP>3</SP> of further spring-loaded bolts to apply pressure between the wringer rollers, a cover-plate C pivoted in or on the end caps B is adapted when closing to rotate a member 6<SP>2</SP> on the pivot b<SP>3</SP> of the cover-plate to engage one of the notches b<SP>1</SP> and also adapted to engage catches d on trip levers D mounted on the pivots b of the end caps B, release of the trip lever D allowing the cover C to pivot to relieve the pressure. The catches d are adapted to engage pins c on the cover C and are released by upward movement either of the trip lever D or of a second trip lever comprising a bell-crank d<SP>3</SP> pivoted at b<SP>3</SP>. One arm d<SP>4</SP> of the bell-crank d<SP>3</SP> overlies and is adapted to engage and operate an arm d<SP>2</SP> of the lever D. A link d<SP>5</SP> which rotates with the cover C has a slot engaged by a pin d<SP>6</SP> connecting a pair of links d<SP>7</SP> so as to limit the movement of the cover C. The links d<SP>7</SP> are mounted on the pivots b.
