Abstract

725,442. Bandbrakes. SELF-CHANGING GEARS, Ltd. Feb. 1, 1954 [March 3, 1953], No. 5891/53. Class 103 (1). Band brake actuating mechanism for use in band brakes of the type described in Specification 220,021, [Class 103 (3)], wherein a primary band acts upon a secondary band so as to provide a brake band arrangement of the self wrapping or self energizing type which renders the brake more capable of controlling rotation of the drum in one direction than in the other, is modified so that such a brake may be made effective, without reversing the disposition of the band, for the opposite direction of rotation of the drum to that appropriate to the band brake shown in Specification 454,149, [Group XXIV]. This is arranged by so positioning the fulcrum parts 18 and 26 and the pivot parts 22 for the thrust lever 19 of the mechanism that substantially greater movement is imparted by the nose part 18 of the lever through the intermediate double hook member 16, to cause downward applying movement to the non-anchored end 13 of the brake band than is imparted by the projection 26 and pull rod 27 to the anchored end 9. Downward movement of the intermediate member 16 is allowed for by arranging it to engage pins 24 on the links 20 through slots 23.
