Abstract
815,435. Mine conveyer brakes. SINCLAIR, H. March 21, 1957 [March 22, 1956], No. 9045/56. Class 103 (1). In a brake mechanism, such as is used for mine conveyers, wherein the conveyer 10 is driven by a motor 2 through an hydraulic coupling 3, the brake shoes 20, 21 being applied to a drum 14 rotatable with the conveyer by a weight 26 and released by an electro-hydraulic thrustor device 24, the normal direction of rotation of the drum is according to the arrow marked in Fig. 2. When power is cut off the motor 2 and the drum braked to a stop, due to the hydraulic coupling 3, the drum may run back slightly according to the arrow shown in Fig. 3, this movement is used to produce a slightly anti-clockwise movement of shoe 20, deflecting its mounting on resilient plate 19 and causing a tappet 28<SP>1</SP> on the post 15 to operate through lever 29 a switch 28 to cut off current to the thrustor 24, as shown in the circuit in Fig. 5. If the switch 38 is closed to energize motor 2, the switch 28 will remain open and prevent the release of the brake by the thrustor until sufficient torque has been built up through the coupling 3 to return the shoe 20 to its normal position.
