Abstract

723,194. Thrust bearings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 12, 1952 [Dec. 19, 1951]. No. 31566/52. Class 12 (1). A self-aligning thrust bearing mounted on a shaft 4 comprises a cup-shaped washer 8, a resilient washer 11 disposed within the washer 8, and a drive washer engaging the resilient washer and having a positive driving engagement with the shaft. Punched dogs 13 engaging milled flats 14 in a shaft thrust shoulder 6 provide the driving connection. The back surface of the washer 8 has a plurality of tapered grooves to reduce the contact area of the washer 8 with a fixed thrust shoulder 3. In a modification dogs on the periphery of the drive washer 11 positively drive against ears provided on the washer 8.
