717,302. Mixing appliances. DRAISWERKE GES. Sept. 4, 1952 [Sept. 7, 1951], No. 22303/52. Class 86 A mixing or kneading machine comprises a container, a vertical shaft carrying a mixing and/or kneading element, and a cover for the container through which the shaft extends, the cover being capable of adjustment in level in the container. The adjustment in level of the cover can be effected independently or together with an adjustment in level of the shaft. As described, in a planetary motion mixer, a pair of shafts 3, 5 depend from a vertically adjustable arm 15 and extend through a rotatable cover 1 within a container 10, the shaft 5 being connected to the cover and carrying a stirring and/or kneading element 4a just below the cover the cover 1 and shaft 5 being arranged for vertical displacement within the container upon rotation of a threaded spindle 9 by a crank handle 9a. The cover is vertically slidable over the shaft 3 which carries a mixing and/or kneadelement 4 in the lower part of the container. In use the cover 1 and shaft 5 may be lowered into the container as the operation proceeds, so that the two members 4. 4a operate in the lower half of the container. The rotation of the cover 1 upon the surface of the material is stated to have a grinding and rubbing effect. The adjustment in level of the cover can be made by hydraulic means which may include a reversing device associated with a hydraulic drive for raising the mixing and kneading means and withdrawing the same from the container.
