588,499. Mixing-machines. MELVIN & GILLESPIE, Ltd., and HALL, W. A. Jan. 4, 1946, No. 24347/44. [Class 86] A dough-mixing machine comprises a rotatable bowl and two or more mixing arms carried by rotary shafts inclined to the vertical and offset at the same side of the axis of rotation of the bowl. Mixing arms 8, 8<SP>1</SP> are mounted within a rotatable mixing bowl 13<SP>1</SP> and are rotatable in bearings in a crosshead 9 supported in trunnions 10, 10<SP>1</SP> in side standards 11, 111. The driving shafts of the mixing arms 8, 8<SP>1</SP> carry bevel gears 7, 7<SP>1</SP>, respectively, in mesh with bevel gears 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, driven by a motor 1 through pinions 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>2</SP>, 4, 4<SP>2</SP>, and pinions 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>2</SP>, 4\ 4<SP>3</SP>, respectively. The mixing arms may have the same or an unequal inclination to the vertical and may be rotated at the same or at different speeds ; and the drive to the mixing arms may comprise a variable speed motor or a variable speed gear. The mixing bowl may be removed when the mixing arms are swung clear by the turning of the cross head 9 by means of a motor 12. The latter drives a worm wheel 13 through an overwinding clutch device which disconnects the drive if the motor 12 is not switched off when the arms 8, 81 have reached their maximum height. The bowl 13<SP>1</SP> is rotatable by gearing driven by the motor 1 or by independent means.
