Abstract

659,240. Mixing appliances. SIMON, A. C. and ATELIERS HEUZE. MALEVEZ & SIMON REUNIS SOC. ANON. June 16, 1949, No. 16116. [Class 86] Apparatus for mixing chocolate and other pastes comprising a tank, a number of main stirrers or the like mounted in a common movable supporting frame and adapted to be positively rotated about their own axes to cause in the mass of materials, internal movements along certain directions in one plane, and additional stirrers adapted to cause internal movements in the mass along certain other directions not in that plane and arranged in the interspaces between the main stirrers, characterized in that the said stirrers depend from the common supporting frame for the main stirrers and are not arranged to be positively rotated about their own axes. As shown in Fig. 1 a rotating frame 30 supports stirrers 27 which are rotated by means of planetary gearing to move the material in a horizontal plane while stirrers 5 which are not positively rotated and which comprise sloping blades 5 secured to shafts 3 move the materials in a vertical plane. The shaft 3 may be secured at an angle to the vertical axis xx and at a desired radial distance along the arm 6 by means of a set screw 7. In Fig. 6 the stirrer 5 comprises a member twisted about its longitudinal axis preferably through less than 270 degrees and in Fig. 9 the stirrer 5 comprises a rotatable shaft 3 carrying a helix or helix section 14 such that when the stirrer is trailed through the material it rotates on its own axis.
