[Also in Group XIII] Air coolers 12 situated in mine workings comprise water or brine coils over which the air of the mine is blown by a fan driven by a motor 16, the coils being connected across flexible lagged pipes 15 leading to a heat exchanger 4 cooled by a closed-cycle air-expansion refrigerator 1, 2. The heat of compression of the air from the rotary compressor 1 is removed by a heat exchanger 5 in which circulates water supplied from the surface or cooled in a cooling tower situated near the bottom of the upcast shaft.
