Abstract
774,415. Drying air; refrigerating. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Aug. 19, 1955 [Aug. 20, 1954], No. 24371/54. Classes 29 and 34(1) In the production of a supply of air of controlled humidity and temperature air inhaled by a compressor 1 from the atmosphere is discharged through a water-cooler 2 and a heat exchanger 3 to a turbine 4 where expansion causes freezing of at least part of the water content the ice crystals being removed by a separator 5 and the air being reheated in the heat exchanger 3. The compressor 1 and turbine 4 are on a common shaft with a steam turbine 7 and a water separator between the heat exchanger and the turbine removes suspended condensate produced by cooler 2 and heat exchanger 3. The turbine 4 has its blades internally heated by steam bled from turbine 7, to prevent ice deposition thereon.
