Abstract
967,525. Pressure exchangers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Aug. 13, 1963 [Sept. 19, 1962], No. 35664/62. Heading F1N. Prevention of condensation or freezing of vapour, e.g., water vapour carried by cold low pressure gas, e.g., air issuing from a port 20 Fig. 2 of a pressure exchanger serving to cool atmospheric air admitted through a port 19 is effected by bleeding relatively warm air from a high pressure outlet port 24 and feeding it through bores 34, 35, 39 adjacent said port 20. Bore 35 is supplied with warm air through bores 7 in the rotor hub 1 and through an annular groove 37 and a bore 36 in end plate 10 whereas bores 34, 35 are supplied through a tube 31 leading from a bore 30 in port 24 in end plate 10. Bore 35 is controlled by a bimetallic-strip operated valve 40, 41. In operation the hub 1 and cell walls 2 are driven by an electric motor 6 Fig. 1 through a shaft 5 and high pressure air from a supply duct 29 is cooled in an exchanger 26 before passing to the high pressure inlet port 23 of end plate 11. The compressed gas contained in each cell expands on reaching the leading edge of port 11 resulting in a temperature drop.
